McDonalds was first set up in 1940, when Richard and Maurice McDonald opened a family restaurant. The restaurant was set up in California on West 14th Street, San Bernandino, (at

). 72 years later and the modern fast-food restaurant is in hundreds of countries world-wide as shown below . According to the McDonald's Corporation website (as of June 2012), McDonald's has, "More than 33,000 restaurants around the world in 118 countries. In the United States, there are more than 14,000 restaurants.." Thats a record !
